What a couple of months for events in nature!  Within the past 2 months, we have seen devastating earthquakes in Haiti and Chile.  We have experienced unparalleled snow storms and blizzards in the East.  For the first time in recorded history, every state in the continental U.S. had fresh snow on the ground (February 12).

Events like these can remind us of how unpredictable life can be.  From earthquakes to ear infections, falling snow to flat tires, there are so many things in life that are unknown and unpleasant.

But we don’t need to go through life cowering in fear over what might happen next.  The reason?  This promise of God:  “‘Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,’ says the LORD, who has compassion on you.” (Isaiah 54:10)

Did you see that picture?  God says that even if the world is being turned upside down, so to speak, his love for you will never change.  He remains in control.  And he will stay in control in governing all things for your eternal good.  He will have compassion on you.

In a world where buildings crumble and stock markets tumble, bodies deteriorate and evil escalates, take comfort that God’s compassionate love will never evaporate.  He’s here to give you peace.  There is nothing to worry about.

Resting on a certain and sure foundation, just like you,

Pastor Jon Bergemann
