Devotion ArchiveWeek of May 10, 2010Ever get a little nervous watching your favorite sports team play a big game? Ever get a little nervous waiting for the results of your final exams? Ever get a little nervous waiting for the results of a medical test? All of these situations (and many, many more in life) can cause nervousness. Why? Because they involve uncertainty. Will the outcome be good or bad? Relax. Jesus says that we can have confidence in our lives, knowing that no matter how tough and rough things might seem, no matter what obstacles and challenges we see in life, in the end the outcome will be good. We will win. Listen to what the angels tell the disciples (and us) when Jesus ascends to heaven, “This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11) Jesus is coming back. He is preparing a place for us in heaven and will escort us there. He has forgiven our sins by his death on the cross and resurrection. Heaven is ours. The outcome is decided. We win. Even if we feel like losers in this life as we fight against the effects of sin – toil, trouble, fatigue, and failure – the outcome is certain. Jesus is coming back. We are going with him. We win. May the confidence and relief that only this truth can bring and only God can give fill your heart and mind today. And when things get really tough this week, just remember: Jesus is coming back. You are going with him. The outcome is decided. You win. Victorious with you, Pastor Jon Bergemann
