Shortly after I got my bottom braces removed, an X-ray from my dentist revealed a cavity in one of my teeth that needed to be addressed.  I just had that procedure done this morning.  The Novocain making the left side of my mouth numb is a very interesting experience.  But I am happy that the hole is my tooth has been covered up, and my decaying tooth has been restored.

God’s law – what he says to do and not to do as recorded in the Bible – is like an X-ray into out decaying sinful nature.  It shows us the holes in our character.  It shows us that we have sinned.  It shows us that we have fallen far short of the perfection demanded to enter heaven on our own merit.  We need help.

God’s gospel – what he has done for us as recorded in the Bible – is the medicine that we need.  Listen to this:  “Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.” (Psalm 32:1)  Every sin of yours has been covered.  Your decaying sinful nature is no longer the real you.  A perfect, complete life – Jesus’ life – is what God sees when he looks at you.  There are no holes in your record.  You are forgiven.  Restored.  Complete.  Whole.

Enjoy your restored status with God today.  His love will cover you.

Restored by the love of God, just like you,

Pastor Jon Bergemann
